Many
firms reckon they are using category
management when in fact they may have added in an
organization design that means purchasers are broadly liable for
expend and suppliers inside a category, but are still in reality
'buying' - that is running a procurement led procedure where they are
basically following a conventional sourcing approach after perhaps a
few rudimentary spend and provide market investigations.
Category
Management is so much more than this. Mainly it is not a
procurement led process, it is a business method. It is generally
facilitated by Procurement - much as HR help the procedures around
development reviews & annual salary, but important the business
considers it their procedure and is extensively considered as the one
way of working around the enterprise when it arrives to purchasing
services and material.
Another
famous misapprehension is that category management anyhow refers to
the sourcing side of Procurement actions lonely. Again, this is
gravely undervaluing what category management actually is. Category
Management is, indeed, a strategical end to end procedure for getting
value from the purchase of services and goods on behalf of the
business. The procedure seeks to align business goals and customer
requirements with the capability of the supply market to reduce risk,
reduce cost, develop service and develop revenue.
